A Merlin Called Merlin

Our customers had already decided their future shepherds hut would be called Merlin before they’d even heard of The Hutmaker. Looks like fate brought us all together!

The brief was a rustic style shepherds hut for our clients to use as a base when spending time on their land growing fruit and veg. Whatever you do, don’t use the words fancy allotment shed – he’s much more special than that!

They’d already chosen Merlin as the name for their hut before they started looking for someone to build him, so they were delighted to stumble across our very own Merlin hut here on the website!

They needed both a store for their equipment, as well as a comfortable place to sit and warm up for a while when the Welsh weather edges over into Shropshire 😉

As the land is totally off grid, we added a Hobbit stove for warmth, a small solar electric system for them to charge their phones and run lights, plus a separate compost toilet hut for them to .. well you know!

This is actually a Merlin XL, so it comes in slightly longer, at 4.2m, than our standard Merlin. They chose the waney edge cladding and went with the traditional stable door. We love it!

As a final flourish, Dave created a hand made name plate for them – just for fun!

The Merlin called Merlin sits in the perfect spot overlooking a small stream, a rustic seating area and a flourishing ‘allotment’. He’s incredibly happy in his new home!
